The origin is another hyped element determining the worth of the gem. Emerald is known for its bright rich green colour, the color of nature we see. So the value of the emerald much depends on how green and lively the colour is appearing in the gem. A well-balanced, saturated green color that is vivid in nature (not too dark or too light) is best for emeralds. The colors can be deep, light, medium, dark or soft in intensities and a well saturated color with no color zoning effect is considered better; such stones will be expensive, and those with very light colors will be inexpensive.
Luster is a property of any lapidary (rough) emerald; skilled cutting and polishing accentuates it. An emerald should be well balanced in dimensions, that is, with not too much height and not too little, with good symmetry in facets and proportins of the crown, table etc., that is how it will attract value.
Almost all the emeralds have surface reaching fissures / cracks which can be visible by eye or may not be. Oiling with colorless oil and resin (natural resin oil) is done on emeralds to fill these micro gaps and to make them look more uniform throughout their bodies. This is a common trade practice to enhance these gems and is commonly accepted
Oiling in certification has 3 to 4 levels; which starts with insignificant, F1 minor, F2 moderate, and F3 significant. Significantly oiled emeralds have bigger inner fissures or cracks, and they dry easily to show up the fissures, cracks, and white patches, so try to go for either insignificant oil or F1 and F2 (moderate) emeralds.
Due to the fact that oil dries up in a significant emeralds in less time revealing the fissures, minor resin is a better option, giving the same effect to the stone and is durable.
The emeralds with resin filling are lower in price than regular oil. Please be assured of resin while buying emeralds.
